Southport Flower Show; Victoria Park
Like flowers? Then this is definitely the place for you! The Southport Flower show is incredibly popular with something for everyone including the children. Watch out for the celebrity guests! Overall there are over 1 million blooms for you to gaze and sniff at including some spectacular designer gardens. For more information visit their website.
Birds and squirrels
Anyone who enjoys watching wildlife will appreciate the opportunity to visit Formby, owned by the National Trust, where you may see a red squirrel if you're lucky. Bird lovers will already be aware of Martin Mere near Burscough only a few miles from Primrose Cottage. Go to the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust website to find out more.
Southport Air Show
If you prefer something a little more macho than flowers and wildlife, how about the north west's largest air show which attracts approximately 200,000 people annually? More information can be found on their website.
Southport British Musical Fireworks Competition
A stunning display over 3 days of graceful pyrotechnics set to music. The lake provides an ideal setting as it reflects the illuminations to dramatic effect. In 2007 the dates are 5-7 October from 1900 to 2200. And best of all, entry is completely free!
Rufford Old Hall
One of Lancashire's best 16 century buildings is only 3 miles from Primrose Cottage. You'll be amazed by the intricately carved wooden screen and hammer-beam roof. There's an arms and armour collection of national important, topiary displays and garden trails to follow. It is said Shakespeare performed in the Great Hall as a young man.
Golf
There isn't a better place for golf fanatics in England. Primrose Cottage is close to both Royal Birkdale and Lytham St Annes.
Racing
All that and we haven't mentioned one of the worlds most famous races, the Grand National held at Aintree Racecourse near Liverpool. Haydock Park is within striking distance too.
Edge Hill University
